Member Spotlight - Brian Monroe

When do you first remember learning about MT Sunrise Rotary? It was way back in 1997 or 1998 when I saw a Lobsterfest flyer on the door of Mequon Ace Hardware. I thought that it sounded like a fun event supporting great local and international causes.

What was your first service project with MT Sunrise after you joined? It was a Community Service project where members volunteered to chaperone wheelchair bound residents of a local assisted living community. We took them by bus to the Milwaukee Public Museum. It got me out of my comfort zone and was a learning experience for me too.

How often to you visit other Rotary clubs? When I was involved in D6270 as Membership Chair and later as an AG I visited many clubs. When I miss a Friday MT Sunrise meeting, I also miss the camaraderie that we share. So when I’m out of town I enjoy attending a meeting in that city to get a “fellowship fix”. It’s amazing how you can visit a Rotary club not knowing anyone when you walked in, and by the conclusion of the meeting feel like you’ve really connected to others. With my frequent visits to Canada (just visited Victoria Harbourside on Vancouver Island on 27 June) I’ve realized that I need to learn the lyrics to “O Canada” and the much tougher one “God Save the Queen”.

Museum of Wisconsin Art 2019 Members' Show

Saturday, July 13, 2019–Sunday, September 8, 2019

MOWA’s year-round exhibitions take deep dives into the historical and contemporary Wisconsin art scene, but there is no better demonstration of the depth and diversity of Wisconsin art than the annual Members’ Show, which showcases works by 250 MOWA members hanging salon style in the State Gallery. With work by professional artists and weekend warriors installed on equal footing, this exhibition offers an invaluable look into the creative vision of contemporary Wisconsin art.
