Bridge the Divide "Come Meet the Family" Film Series

Invitation to attend a multicultural film series “Come Meet the Family” beginning this Saturday, March 9th.

Come Meet the Family! is a chance for North Shore families to meet people from diverse cultures by seeing their stories told in award-winning family-friendly films and asking questions of experts from those cultures in post-film talkbacks, moderated by Erica Turner (Bridge the Divide) and Dr. Fran Kaplan (Nurturing Diversity Partners). Children (10 and up), their parents and other adults are invited to these four films that begin at 9:30 am. Post-screening talkbacks at 11:00 am. Free childcare for kids under 10, by registration. Please feel free to forward this email and invite your friends!

A Rotary LOL Moment

Police captain who reported unethical behavior by Mequon's police commission selected as city's new chief

After a long selection process in which three commissioners resigned, the Mequon Police and Fire Commission has chosen Police Capt. Patrick Pryor to serve as the city's next police chief.

Pryor is expected to be sworn in on Friday, May 3. He will replace Chief Dan Buntrock, who will retire.

Pryor joined the Mequon Police Department in 1999. He served six years as a police officer, 12 years as a sergeant and two years as police captain.

He was one of three finalists under consideration for the police department's top job. The other two candidates were Racine Police Lt. Steve Wagner and Fort Atkinson Police Chief Adrian Bump.

4 dynamite ways to find new members

In January, we had 61 members in our club, an increase of about 40 percent from the beginning of the Rotary year in July, when we had 43. Our success has been based on two ingredients: encouraging friendships and promoting fun in Rotary.

But just as important to our growth has been a systematic and continuous follow up with potential new members. Too often a potential new member is approached once and then forgotten. Every club needs a champion or champions willing to take the extra time to stay in communication with every potential new member. I am often asked where I find all these potential new members. Our sources grow as we come up with new ideas. Below are some of the practical ways we have found members:

Dorothy Krupa from Rotary Amigos Addresses Club

Dorothy Krupa from Rotary Amigos spoke to our club on a grant application they are working on to help Mirebalais Rotary Club in Haiti.

The Amigos rotary and the Mirebalais rotary club in Haiti have applied for global grant to provide micro loans to women in Haiti. As you know Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. International Research shows that one of the root causes that keeps people in poverty is the lack of access to financial bank services. (Photo by Bob Blazich)

Glenn Grothman is the congressman for Wisconsin’s 6th Congressional District. Grothman is currently serving his second term in Congress, having been elected in 2014. 

Grothman serves on the House Budget, Education and the Workforce and Oversight and Government Reform Committees. Grothman's time in office has been marked by his passionate advocacy for manufacturing, tax reform, welfare reform, education reform, immigration reform and pro-life causes. 

Before serving in Congress, Grothman served as the Assistant Majority Leader in the Wisconsin State Senate where he worked for economic growth legislation and tax reform. Prior to his election to the state senate, Grothman served as a representative to the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1993 through 2003. He was also a practicing attorney in the areas of estate planning and probate and worked as a tax preparer.

Grothman earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting and Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He graduated from Homestead High School in his home town of Thiensville, Wisconsin.

Grothman, 62, lives in the Town of Glenbeulah in Sheboygan County.
