Member Spotlight - Steve Taylor

It is hard to believe that I have been a member of this club for three and a half years already, joining on June 16th, 2017.  I was able to jump at the chance of joining when the timing and opportunity arose.  I have had a relationship with Rotary my whole life, my father who was a small business owner and an active member in the 1980 often took us to events include my favorite which was the annual pancake supper.  My stepfather was a district governor at one point as well.

I was born and raised in Midland, MI, graduating from Midland High (The Chemics) in 1994.  A highlight from high school was playing on the state runner up football team in the fall of 1993.  I then attended and graduated from Concordia with a B.A. in History in 1998, a MS in Higher Education Administration in 2001 and a Doctorate in Higher Education from Concordia University Portland in 2019.

Since graduating with my bachelor’s degree, I have served at Concordia in many different capacities including Residence Hall Director, Director of Residence Life, Director of Financial Aid, and since July of 2015 the Vice President of Student Life.

My wife Sonia and I live in West Bend with our 3 children, Nick (16), Hannah (13), and Josh (12).  They are involved in many activities like sports that range from football and basketball to ice skating and horseback riding and some in between.  They also participate in bands, choirs, clubs, and drama.  People say we will miss all the running someday; we will see about that!

My hobbies and interests include traveling with my family and being outdoors.  Some of our favorite trips include Disney, Yellowstone, and the UP.  One of my favorite outdoor activities is fishing, which I am able to do often in local lakes and in Northern Wisconsin.

REMINDER: Time to turn-in END POLIO NOW funds!

Rotary International is observing World Polio Day this Saturday, October 24 and it is time for our Sunrise Rotarians to empty their "End Polio Now" jars which were distributed to you last year.  Don't fret if you do not have your jar, but please help Rotary on its final drive to eradicate polio worldwide. We are now down to just 2 countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan, where polio is still active.  Nigeria was declared polio free now in 2020 as is all of Africa!

Recently Dr. Funsho, of Nigeria and Rotary's National Polio Plus Committee chair, was named one of Time Magazines 100 Most Influential People-2020. He is the first Rotary member to receive this honor.

Please empty your jar, or make a monetary contribution, for End Polio Now. Just write a check and send it to Fr. Mike, along with a note designating it for Polio.  You can send it with your current dues and/or your Happy Bucks but just let Mike know where your $$$ are to go.

Thank you so very much.

Kapco's Kids2Kids Christmas Wonderland

From: T-M Noon Rotary Club Newsletter

During the past 14 years, Kapco Kids2Kids Christmas Toy Drive has collected more than 225,000 new toys that have been contributed to dozens of local charities serving low income and disadvantaged youth.
Excerpt from an email from: Zach Eisendrath,Vice President of Business Development, Kacmarcik Enterprises.

This year, Jim Kacmarcik and our team have big plans for the largest toy drive in Wisconsin, as we will be launching Kapco’s Kids2Kids Christmas Wonderland, a  high-profile, destination event taking place in November and December 2020 that will bring joy and wonderment to tens of thousands of people in southeastern Wisconsin. This will be one of the few, social-distanced ways to for children to meet Santa this year -- and will help us raise funds to support our toy drive at the same time.

Event Details:

With stunning displays constructed by Hollywood set designers, over one million lights, an incredible entry tunnel,  a live nativity scene, and even Santa’s Workshop,  Kapco’s Kids2Kids Christmas Wonderland will be an unparalleled celebration of the season and joy of giving.  From the safety and comfort of their own vehicle, people of all ages will enjoy a drive-thru experience like no other.

Now in our 15th year, with social distancing in mind, Kapco’s Kids2Kids Christmas Wonderland is a bold vision to bring joy to tens of thousands of people. One of Kapco’s large parking lots on the corner of Highway 60 and Cheyenne Avenue in Grafton will be transformed into something never before experienced in our region. Proceeds from Kapco’s Kids2Kids Christmas Wonderland will be utilized to purchase new toys for children in need in our community and provide healing and hope to children who have experienced trauma and other adversity.

If sponsorship does not interest you, but you would like to support our cause, you may also purchase tickets to the Wonderland or make a tax-deductible donation to provide toys to children in need this holiday season. Tickets and donations are accepted directly online at www.Kids2KidsToyDrive.com.
