Good morning Rotarians!

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful week, I look forward to seeing all of you tomorrow.

This past week we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the chartering of MTSR and it was certainly a highlight of my term. Listening to the stories and recaps from our founding members, past presidents and other area Rotarians really emphasized the goodwill and positive effect that Rotary has had on our community. As our MC suggested, I thought about what a different community we might live in if not for the vision and dedication of a few Rotarians to "get the ball rolling" and then the perseverance of many Rotarians to keep it rolling. It was a beautiful and detailed example of the power of "service above self".

For those of you who planed and executed the event, our sincere thanks. For those who attended the event, thank you for participating in part of our Club history. And for those that we unable to attend, we missed you.

When MTSR choose to complete its financial obligation to Riverwalk, the TM Rotary (noon club) choose to follow suit and payed their portion as well. We presented a check $36,449.36 to Mayor Abendroth, thus fulfilling the financial commitment to the City of Mequon and The Village of Thiensville for both Mequon-Thiensville Rotary Clubs and completing The Riverwalk project.

I'll reiterate, the celebration of our past achievements and accomplishments is a wonderful thing, 25 years is a significant milestone, and knowing that we carried on the vision and overcame the challenges of goal set before our time is very rewarding. But remember that we are standing in the shade of trees planted by others. This is OUR time, and I challenge us to roll up our sleeves and get to work, creating new goals and visions that will carry forward, because we are positive people, driven to serve. And mostly because in 25 short years, at our 50th anniversary celebration, my daughter or you son or our neighbor will be standing before us, highlighting the accomplishments of MT Sunrise Rotary from 2015 to 2040, and WE must ensure they have  plenty of material to work with.

As we prepare to turn over the reigns to an new administration and we enjoy the company and vision of many new members to our Club, let us take off this Rotary year with the energy of celebrating our past and the desire to create our future.

Speaking of a vision, someone or maybe several in the Anniversary planning committee decided to place Polo donation collection jars with "call to action" flags sticking out of them on each table at the picnic. Our MC explained and refers to them several times. Rotarians in attendance and our guests pushed over $460 into those jars to support the final push to eradicate polo. In another service above self moment, one of our newest members, David Schlageter made the proclaimed to match the polo jar funds, brining in our total for the evening almost $1000. Thank you for all those who stuffed the jars and thank you David for your generosity that will bring us that much closer to ridding the world of polo.

Mequon middle schooler aces the ACT
By Jeff Rumage

Mequon - A Mequon student is among the one-tenth of 1 percent of ACT test takers who earned a perfect score on the college admission test this year.

There's something that makes Julian Camacho stand out even further from that elite group: he hasn't reached high school yet. Camacho, who is only 12 years old, skipped seventh grade and is an eighth grader at Lake Shore Middle School in Mequon.

An ACT spokeswoman was only able to find two eighth graders who scored a perfect score this school year. When scanning spreadsheets dating back to 2000, she found one other eighth grader who scored a perfect score in 2010.

Camacho took the exam in April as a participant in the Northwestern University Midwest Academic Talent Search, which allows students the opportunity to take internationally recognized tests earlier than normal. To prepare for the test, Camacho completed two full ACT practice tests and went over his mistakes.

Despite all of his preparation, he still figured he must have made at least a few mistakes in the test, so he was surprised when he received the perfect test results. Camacho received a perfect 36 on each of the exam's four subsections, which include English, reading, mathematics and science.
