A Rotary LOL Moment
Stewardship Planting at Pukaite Woods in Rotary Park

On Saturday, JUNE 4, our M-T Sunrise Rotary partner, Ozaukee Washington Land Trust, is planning a short workday to PLANT native tree seedlings and shrubs in Pukaite Woods.  We'll probably work up to four hours.  CAN YOU HELP FOR SOME OR ALL OF THOSE HOURS?

The new trees & shrubs will help crowd out re-growth of the buckthorn along the streambed from which OWLT volunteers (and Dave Schlageter) removed mature buckthorn through the fall and earlier this spring.

Please respond, and let me know if you (and any family or friends) can join us even for an hour or two on June 4, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.   We need to know what tools/equipment we'll need.

Cafe Hollander to open in Mequon May 20
By Erik S. Hanley

Cafe Hollander will open May 20 in the Mequon Town Center according to a news release from the Lowlands Group May 10.

The grand opening event will last throughout the weekend and will include a charity benefit for Milwaukee Riverkeeper, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, and the Ozaukee Interurban Trail where a group bike ride will also take place.

Located at 5900 W. Mequon Road, the cafe/restaurant will bring about 150 new jobs to Mequon. The site will feature second floor seating, a rooftop patio, outdoor pétanque ball court, and a design which allows the whole restaurant to open to the outdoors in the summer.

In line with the company's passion for cycling, covered bicycle parking will be available along with a bike pump and water, the release states.

"This location was a long time coming," said Dan Herwig, director of brand and marketing at Lowlands Group. "As we look at suburban neighborhoods, we look for development opportunities that provide connectivity between retail business, walkable streets and transit. We think that Mequon is on the cusp of developing a true town center, and we're excited to be a part of the beginning of that vision."

Since 2006 when Cafe Hollander on Downer Avenue was opened, seven more restaurants have popped up with more planned, according to the release. Other than Cafe Hollander, the Lowlands Group operates Benelux Grand Cafe and market, Cafe Bavaria, and Cafe Centraal.
