Cafe Hollander in Mequon to stay open until 2 a.m.
By Erik S. Hanley

Mequon - On the heels of its recent opening, Cafe Hollander's looking at changing to a 2 a.m. closing time.

Owned and operated by the Lowlands Group, Cafe Hollander requested being allowed to stay open until 2 a.m. for both indoor and outdoor seating at a June 13 plan commission meeting.

Alderman Robert Strzelczyk suggested a compromise to only allow outdoor seating on the south side of the building until 2 a.m., saying there is a wall there that would help to block noise. His motion passed unanimously.

Cafe Hollander has been closing at 11 p.m. per city code. Assistant Director of Community Development Jac Zader said there were no requests for extension in the building and site plan. He said staff had a few concerns with having outdoor seating available until 2 a.m. Originally, staff suggested an outdoor seating time limit of midnight.

In addition, string lighting along the sides of the building was not approved before installation, but received approval from the plan commission at the same meeting.
