Can You Cut It?

Teasel, a non-native, invasive plant spreading throughout Mequon-Thiensville fields & roadsides, squeezes out native plants and takes over open spaces. Teasel reproduces rapidly by seed. The spread of teasel causes major harm to native ecosystems, destroys food and habitat for birds and other wildlife, and diminishes native plant and wildlife diversity.

If you see it in your neighborhood,  Now is the time to cut the flower-heads off before they go to seed.  Cut it every year in August, and you can help stop the spread.

In the months leading up to the project, I reached out to organizations in our area that assist people with developmental disabilities in finding employment. They all knew one or two job seekers who were ready to work, but who needed help talking to people and connecting with employers. “If they can just sit at the table with business leaders, they will convey their value,” my colleagues urged.
