Cedarburg Chamber of Commerce prepares for a move

The Cedarburg Chamber of Commerce is preparing to make a big change this fall.
The chamber and the Cedarburg Visitor Center are moving from their current location on Washington Avenue into a building that previously housed Partnership Bank on Columbia Road, less than half a mile away.
The move was made possible by a local preservation commission, which gifted the building to the chamber, said Jennifer Andreas, executive director of the chamber.
"Their idea to give us a new space and utilize this beautiful historic building," she said.
The building was largely remodeled when the bank occupied it, said Andreas, so there's not too much work that needs to be done, although there are plans to use re-purposed hardwood floors from a school gymnasium from the 1930s and 1940s inside the new space. There are also plans to use reclaimed barn wood to give the building an aesthetic appeal.
Current plans involve a museum ran and managed by the Cedarburg Cultural Center and visitor center occupying the building's first floor with chamber offices on the second floor. The new location is optimal for all involved, but especially for the visitor center, which is seen by thousands of people every year, Andreas said. The building on Columbia Road will offer the museum a more centralized location, which is ideal due to the many festivals hosted in Cedarburg annually.
The chamber hopes to gain occupancy of the building by Nov. 1 and be open to the public before the end of the year.
"We'll invite the community to a grand opening once we're there," Andreas said.
Andreas said the chamber will try its best to not be closed for more than one or two days during the move. The organization will have a smaller version of the chamber and visitor center open at its current location during the transition, she said.
