Thought of the Week

The degree of one's emotion varies inversely with one's knowledge of the facts - the less you know the hotter you get. - Bertrand Russell

Member Spotlight - Lynn Streeter

Where were you born and raised? I was born in New York City. I was raised in Mount Kisco, New York; a village of approximately 12,000 people located an hour north of the city. My father was an oral surgeon and my mother a pediatric nurse. Both were active volunteers in our community.

What did you want to be when you grew up? I grew up with a strong connection to the medical community. My first volunteer role was in our local community hospital. I made the decision to become an Occupational Therapist when I was in high school. I believe that to serve in health care is both a calling and a privilege. I have been fortunate to have served the community of southeast Wisconsin for over 40 years.

What is your formal education? I received my undergraduate degree in Occupational Therapy from Washington University in St. Louis. I interned in adolescent and adult mental health as well as pediatric rehabilitation. It was my mental health internship that brought me to Wisconsin. My graduate degree is in Administrative Leadership and Adult Education from the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee. I was granted an honorary Nursing Degree by the Columbia College of Nursing.

Tell us about your family? Scot and I will celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary this September. His mother, sister and brother-in-law all live here in Mequon. I am the oldest of three children. My sister’s family live in New Hampshire and my brother’s family live in New York. I am part of a large extended Italian family.

How do you spend your time outside of work? I have been an active community volunteer since I was 14. It has been both an evolving and continuous part of my life. Scot and I both love to travel, visiting over 30 countries, and have been fortunate in the many adventures that we have experienced. Scot is a beekeeper, as many of you know, and has engaged me in his hobby! I retired from Froedtert Health & the Medical College of Wisconsin on December 31st. Yes, in the middle of winter and a pandemic. But I am starting to figure it out! Scot and I are spending as much time as possible outdoors: kayaking, swimming and walking nature trails. We have resumed our tai chi classes. I am building on my love of cooking through both the local organic farm and the Alaskan fishery we subscribe to. I volunteer at the Family Sharing food pantry. Life at the Woodlands of Ville du Parc is busy with Scot serving as President of the HOA and me Chairing the Landscape Committee (yes, we went from caring for one home to 52!). Well, maybe I haven’t actually figured it out yet.

Mequon Police Department

From the City of Mequon Facebook Page

The Mequon Community Foundation advocated for the Mequon Police Department and K9 Unit at Gathering on the Green in July 2021 and successfully raised over $8,000 for the police department.  This enabled the police department to purchase two Bulls Sturmvogel Evo Street e-bikes outfitted for bike patrol that can be used throughout the city.

The remaining proceeds will be used for police department and K9 community relation promotional items. Alongside MCF representatives, K9 Officers Djuke and Iron, as well as other uniformed officers were present to answer questions and interact with the community. The response from the community was overwhelming.

Also, thanks to Sam Wolf and Trailside Recreation for the custom build out of the bikes for our officers to use.
