Falafel Guys food truck to open restaurant in Thiensville
By Jeff Rumage
Thiensville - After a year of pedaling falafel and shawarma from a food truck, Falafel Guys have invested in a brick-and-mortar storefront in Thiensville.
Falafel Guys has cultivated an especially large following in Whitefish Bay, where it is the only food truck to make regular appearances. Falafel Guys also makes regular appearances in downtown Milwaukee and at the Brown Deer Community Vibes concerts.
Customers track the food truck's whereabouts on Facebook and Twitter, but they have urged owners Chrissy and Ronny Stroli to find a permanent space where they can dine for lunch and dinner. The Strolis, who live in Cedarburg, have signed a lease at the former B1 Burger space at 105 W. Freistadt Road in Thiensville, and they plan to open in November.
"I think there's a real niche for this in the North Shore," Chrissy Stroli said. "Even when we are downtown, we find a lot of our customers are from the North Shore."
The Strolis, who own Stroli Motors at 7240 W. Good Hope Road, decided to open Falafel Guys last year because Ronny wanted to bring food from his native Israel to Wisconsin. They serve falafel, shawarma, breaded eggplant or chicken schnitzel in a pita with salads, tahini, hummus and pickles.
By opening a restaurant in addition to the food truck, the Strolis will be able to serve their food year-round. The 1,800-square-foot restaurant will have an expanded menu for lunch and dinner, including wine and beer.
In addition to its regular stops in Whitefish Bay and Brown Deer, Falafel Guys are also planning to visit the North Shore for Congregation Shalom's Food Truck Shabbat in Doctor's Park on Aug. 21, as well as the Bayside 5K run/walk on Sept. 11.
