Homestead will start turf work on Monday
By Jeff Rumage

Mequon - Construction will begin Monday, July 6, on an artificial turf football field at Homestead High School.

The artificial turf, along with the resurfacing of the track and the relocation of field events, is part of the first phase of an ambitious athletic facilities renovation projected spearheaded by the Homestead Booster Club. The booster club recently donated $1.1 million to the Mequon-Thiensville School District for the construction work.

The project is scheduled to be completed in early September.

The centerpiece of the larger athletic renovation plan is a pavilion that would include restrooms, concessions and two team rooms. Sommer's Automotive donated $250,000 to secure naming rights for the $500,000 pavilion, which would would be centrally located between the football, softball, soccer and tennis facilities.

The Highlander Strong fundraising campaign is seeking donors to contribute the remaining $250,000 for the pavilion.

"Although we are overjoyed with the completion of phase one, the booster club is not done working for the good of our community," said Homestead Booster Club President Jennifer Zoeller. "Our ultimate vision has always been to revitalize Homestead's outdoor complex in order to build a community gem; a gathering place for everyone in Mequon and Thiensville."
