Dave Schlageter needs help lining up speakers for our meetings, so please send him your ideas for exciting programs.
We are about to start a new year for Rotary. We are always looking for speakers. There are no set rules for the speakers, and we welcome diverse people. If you have anyone in mind, please contact me via e-mail, and we will work to invite them to a meeting.
Where: We meet at the Mequon Public Market, 6300 W Mequon Rd, Mequon, WI 53092. (The entrance is at the rear.)
Next scheduled meeting 9/6/2024
At our meetings, the Greeter will provide either the thought, a Rotary minute, share a family moment or a cultural tradition ... anything with which they would like to start off the day positive.
2) The only thing she loves more than dogs is her family (well, most of them).
3) She placed first in a French pronunciation contest in high school.
4) Her parents thought she was allergic to chocolate when she was young, and she was "deprived" for many years. She has been making up for that ever since the allergy tests proved her parents wrong.
5) Both of her parents died due to Alzheimer's. Her mom, Velma, had the disease and died in 2015. Here is an article Carol wrote about her: https://wesselselderlaw.wordpress.com/2015/03/01/the-mom-i-knew/ . Her father, Russell, never had Alzheimer's, but as a caregiver for Velma, he put his own health care needs aside and died in 2008 of a form of cancer that was very treatable if he had gone to the doctor when he needed to. Here is an article she wrote about him: https://wesselselderlaw.wordpress.com/2015/06/21/the-father-i-lost/ This is why Carol feels that it is so critical to pay attention to the needs of caregivers, as well as the needs of people living with dementia.
6) She loves wine (especially Burgundy wines) more than chocolate, less than dogs, and often on a par with those certain members of her family that do not top dogs.
7) Her first exposure to Rotary was as a participant at the World Affairs Seminar for two years running when she was in high school.
8) Her first exposure to MT Sunrise was when she bid on "Rotary works for you" and the crew came and planted flowers and spread mulch in the garden where she and her now-husband Paul were going to be married. Since that time in 2018, many flowers have grown, many weeds have been pulled, and there are three new garden beds in other parts of the yard. She loves gardening, but would be nowhere on that without Paul's diligent weed management and hole digging skills ("you point, I dig.")
9) Her dogs are named Bowie and Rita. She has had 12 dogs in her life: Bailey, Kodiak, Mack, Cody, Big Jake, Little Jake, Sunny, Bowie, DD, Sadie, Daisy and Rita. Did she mention her parents also thought she was allergic to dogs and deprived her of that too, so she has made up for it with all of these dogs since she turned 20.
10) She has a newfound love of birding and bird photography. Thanks to the 60th birthday present she told Paul he was getting her - a digital camera with a telephoto lens.
“Brain Training” has become a huge industry with hundreds of thousands of individuals using various products worldwide. Here our speaker will cover what the science in this field really says about what is best for your brain health.
This year's Team for the Walk to End Alzheimer's is a combination of all Ozaukee Rotary clubs! We hope that all MT Sunrise club members will join the team or make a donation.
The Walk is on September 28th at Veterans Park in Port Washington.
The event will be held at the River Club of Mequon, 12400 N. Ville Du Parc Dr., Mequon.
Each year, the club has a fund-a-cause. Last year was the Guatemala Research Partnership and Oliveros Scholarships in Guatemala. This year, it is closer to home, supporting local veterans.
The “Theme of Supporting Locally – Veteran’s Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.
” Prepare your taste buds for a delightful journey! There is always delicious food, and this year is no exception.
It includes various cuisines from the Mediterranean, Cuba, and Thailand.
There will also be wonderful music.
We will host a silent auction throughout the evening and a lively live auction. Both feature a variety of fun and tasty items for bids.
“Last year, the generous donations from the AROUND THE WORLD Event allowed the M-T Sunrise Rotary to assist over 30 different organizations, making a significant impact on our community both locally and globally,” said Vice President Doreen Lettau.
This year’s program promises to be very special, with speakers from around the country who have developed programs and are working with Veterans to support mental health, including the Greater Ozaukee Veterans Project. Your presence and support can make a significant difference in these initiatives. Come and have a wonderful evening honoring our local veterans and other organizations.

Here is what has to be done: 1.Get 5 more bakers 2.Prepare a display for the live auction 3.Solicit donations of 4 bags of coffee and 3 bottles of dessert wine to be included in the display.
I can take over in January but cannot work from now until after my surgery.
