Lake Shore Middle School earns blue ribbon award By Jeff Rumage
Mequon - Lake Shore Middle School has been named a National Blue Ribbon School, placing the Mequon middle school in an elite class of the nation's highest performing schools.
Lake Shore is one of nine schools statewide and 335 schools nationwide to be honored with this award based on overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Lake Shore is being recognized for its exceptional academic excellence, as measured by state assessments.
"The Mequon-Thiensville School District is committed to the academic and personal growth of all students," said Mequon-Thiensville Superintendent Demond Means. "We believe that all students will learn and experience success, and this prestigious recognition is reassurance of that."
The National Blue Ribbon Award was a culmination of a four-to-six-month application process, followed by an invitation to apply from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. As a recognized school, Lake Shore will be honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on November 9-10. Lake Shore Middle School Principal Kate Dunning will accept the award on behalf of her school.
"We are thrilled to receive this award," Dunning said. "While the Mequon-Thiensville community already knows that Lake Shore provides its students an exceptional academic education, this national, prestigious award is a wonderful reminder. I want to thank our teachers, staff members, parents, students and community members for their continued support."
