Saturday, May 4 from 11 or 11:30 to 1 pm at Rotary Park.

I'm looking for a few Rotarian Volunteers for just a couple of hours

Here's the deal:

The Northshore United Soccer Club, which serves primarily kids from Mequon, Thiensville, Cedarburg, is putting on a small Run/Walk around Rotary Park and through the Woods,
and they need help to keep Walkers/Runners on track through the meandering race trail and safe from vehicular traffic entering the park.

It will be especially helpful if we can recruit Rotary volunteers with bright yellow 'Rotarians at Work' safety vests.  They will stand out!!   (and I have a supply of vests!!)

While the actual Walk-Run starts at noon, the organizers (led by the primary organizer -  a 14 year old girl who is raising funds to make sure all her teammates can travel with the Team even if their families are strapped for funds ) will need volunteers to show up Saturday at the Rotary Pavilion in Rotary Park between 11 and 11:30 a.m. ... hopefully before most of the 100 registered Runners/Walkers show up so the organizers will be able to explain where they want volunteers to stage themselves.  Rotary Volunteers will likely be done by 1 p.m.
  • As I understand it, the organizers plan to put barricades at the West entrance at Highland Road, so they'll need volunteers at that barricade to direct motorists east to enter the Park, park their vehicles on the west side and walk back over to the Rotary Pavilion to register and que up for the start of the Run/Walk.
  • The Run/Walk will move from Rotary Pavilion south on the entrance driveway to the south end of the Park, move east to the east entrance, and then north on the pavement to trails into the Woods.
  • When the Run/Walk begins, they will need volunteers also on the Park's east entrance  to slow vehicles entering the drive to protect Runners/Walkers who will be moving north on the paved area. Volunteers need to keep the Runners/Walkers separate from cars on the west side for everyone's safety.
  • The organizers will also need volunteers at a number of specific spots along the meandering race-trail through the Woods and Park to keep people on track.
The expectation is that even the slowest walker will have pretty much completed the course by 1 p.m., and most of the Rotary-vested volunteers will be free to leave ... though they're also invited to stay around and socialize around a number of Food Trucks that will be stationed in the parking lot of the Rotary Pavilion by 1 pm.

The organizers expect between 200 and 300 people ... maybe more for socializing through the afternoon.  This is a great opportunity for Rotarians to demonstrate how much a part of the community we are ... and how much fun it would be to JOIN ROTARY!!

Please send me an email at pukaite@sbcglobal.net  if you think you can volunteer a couple of hours on Saturday.

Thanks for considering the opportunity!!
