Teen Job Fair
On Wednesday, April 13, Rotary's Teen Job Fair attracted 74 teenagers from throughout Ozaukee County with 77% coming from Homestead, Cedarburg and Grafton. In addition, 74% of the teenagers were sophomores, juniors or seniors. The event also attracted 6 employers who stated they were looking to hire about 21 people in total and estimated they found about 14 from the pool at the Job Fair. While there were higher expectations for the event from organizers, the overwhelming majority of teenage attendees (93%) felt this event will help them find a job. And that was the main purpose of the event.
Members were asked to tell their favorite part of the event. Some thought watching the parents (mostly moms but some dads as well) reacting to their near-adult children meeting with potential employers for their first job was the highlight. Others thought watching Mark Hauschel's facial expression when he displayed his large stack of names of potential Rotaract and Interact candidates was the highlight. Still others enjoyed the endless "Thank You's" and "Will you be doing this again next year?" as an indication of a very successful event.
There was also a great turnout from our fellow Rotarians with at least 13 members participating in the event. All in all, I think we can say the event was a success and worthy of consideration next year.
