Yup, our intrepid oenologist, John Cabaniss, joined Judine Phillips in what seems to be beating very narrow odds. John won the Ballard Lane cabernet November 17 with a ticket stub and the accumulated “jackpot” of $26.00 by drawing the Joker from the hat with only two cards having been destroyed prior to his drawing. Not only that, but his February, 2022 win of $14.00 was also against super odds.
Also in February of 2022, Judine drew the winning Joker, and because of the unfavorable odds against her, celebrated the win by demanding she may keep the Joker. Judine’s wish was granted. Her bank account swelled by the munificent sum of $39.
Raffle committee chair Mike Shay says the lesson is, that even with 50 cards, the odds are pretty even, that is, 1-in-2, that you will draw out the Joker. Why? Well, you either will, or you will not. 1-in-2! Further, he says, belaboring the obvious, these winners won only because they bought tickets! Two other winners’ takes were over $600.00!
Buying tickets for the wine raffle grows the pot by 40%, while the Club retains 60% for seed money for the various Avenues of Service and Committees.
The fun of the drawings is complemented by the good done by the club and the charities the winners select for their eleemosynary considerations.
