Happy 21st Anniversary
On May 9th 1990 our Mequon Thiensville Sunrise Rotary Club was officially chartered. Our thanks goes out to the original 25 plus charter members who had the willingness and the ability to make this club move from just an idea into reality. All Rotary clubs have a sponsoring club and that was our sister club the Thiensville-Mequon noon Club.
We have continued to maintain many shared activities. Our current focus is our joint Rotary Centennial Project, “Riverwalk” started in 2003. We have also shared some members, COG (Changing of the Guard), social events, GMRP and our passion to give back to the MT, Ozaukee and international communities. TM Rotary gave the City of Mequon Rotary Park and we have taken on the stewardship of Pukaite Woods. We also continue to share making ongoing improvements. Reuter Pavilion received sinks form us, now we’ll be installing sound deadening panels together, with funds coming from the TM Rotary Foundation. We are now moving into another shared event with their partnership with us for LF 2011.
Want to learn more about our 21 years of history? Then you may want to ask our three remaining “charter members”, Dick Dieffenbach, Steve Peterman and Roger Reinemann. We have made a difference by raising and giving back over $300,000 during those 21 years we’re on track to continue that ability with LF 2011. We have recorded many events with great images and those need to be shared not only with current members but our community. They currently are stored at Dick’s office and we would like to sort them and digitize so that we can load them onto our galleries on our new website. We might even find more like-minded individuals that would want to join us in continuing our service above self.
Club Service is entertaining ideas on how we should celebrate our milestone this month. Please bring your ideas forth to current Club Service Chair Dick Dieffenbach or other members on that committee and help us celebrate our 21st anniversary.
