The Grants and Donations Committee, an advisory committee to our Board of Directors, is charged with reviewing requests for funds, ensuring a fit with our mission, and being good stewards of donated monies. This is a summary report to our members regarding the first half of our Rotary year.

Our “Around the World” fundraiser generated $8,350, though a fund-a-cause auction, for the MT Trails Foundation bike/pedestrian path project.

Written requests for grants and donations are reviewed on a biannual basis. Our fall cycle resulted in approval of funds for the following organizations:

  • Rotary Club of Milwaukee - water system project in the highlands northwest of Guatemala City ($2,500)
  • Family Promise of Ozaukee - bedding for the new permanent homeless shelter in Port Washington ($2,500)
  • The Adult Literacy Center - support for the English Language Learner tutoring program ($2,500)

Our Club is positioned to respond to urgent requests as they arise. Two such requests were received and funded during this timeframe:

  • Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin Charitable Foundation - support for a Mequon firefighter/paramedic severely injured while responding as a Good Samaritan to a motor vehicle accident($5,000)
  • Wisconsin Rotary Clubs support for Ukraine - contribution to a Wisconsin Rotary initiative to purchase generators for Ukraine to be used urgently for shelters, schools and hospitals ($5,000)

I wish to thank the following committee members for their time and thoughtful deliberation: Seth Duhnke, Cori Guerin, Steve Peterman, Connie Pukaite and Father Mike Shay.
