Karl Hertz has served as Thiensville village president, Ozaukee County supervisor and superintendent of the Mequon-Thiensville School District.

Hertz and his wife, Carol, moved to Thiensville 34 years ago when he was hired as the superintendent of the Mequon-Thiensville School District, a position he held for 12 years. After retiring, Hertz served as president of the American Association of School Administrators. In 1998, received the Distinguished Service award from the organization.

Civic service has always been a priority for Hertz, who has served as an Ozaukee County supervisor since 2008. He previously served as Thiensville village president, Thiensville village trustee, president of the Thiensville-Mequon Rotary and district governor for Rotary District 6270.

Hertz has received the Outstanding Education Alumnus Award from Indiana University and the Normal Gill Individual Excellence in Government Award from the Public Policy Forum in Milwaukee.

The Hertzes are involved at Lumen Christi Catholic Church. The couple celebrated their 60th anniversary at the end of December. They have three children and five grandchildren.
