Meaningful Conversations

We continue a series of meaningful conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The Statement form Rotary International about diversity, equity, and inclusion specifies that Rotarians value “diversity and celebrates the contributions of people of all backgrounds, regardless of their age, /ethnicity, race, color, abilities, religion, socioeconomic status, culture, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity.”

We continue this series of Meaningful Conversations; your feedback has been helpful in planning for the next few months. Race related issues have dominated the conversations because these issues remain at the frontline due to the magnitude of systemic racism. We have been listening to speakers and panelist speak about their life experiences focusing mostly on race relations at the local and regional level.

Our goal for having these Meaningful Conversations is for us to continue to experience growth, gain deeper understanding, and renew our commitment to fairness and justice.

“ Rotary will cultivate a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture in which people from underrepresented groups have greater opportunities to participate as members and leaders. Making diversity, equity, and inclusion a priority is everyone’s responsibility.” RI Statement

We are inviting individuals from other underrepresented groups to share their life experience or the experiences of those who they know. On January 29 th we will have Kay Newell, Chuck Zamora, Andy Harrington and Danielle Deller join us in a panel conversation. We are pleased and thankful to this panel of current and past members of our club for their willingness to share the challenges of diversity, equality, and inclusion experienced by people with Down Syndrome, Autism spectrum disorder or other developmental disabilities.
