Walk in the Woods
The Mequon-Thiensville Sunrise Rotary Club and the City of Mequon are excited to partner again for the fourth year, offering
a Candlelight “Walk-In-The-Woods” at Pukaite Woods in Rotary Park.

The event will occur on Saturday, February 17, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The event is free to the public.

The public restrooms will be open, and volunteers from the Rotary Club will serve hot cocoa and cider with bonfire stations positioned throughout the park.  The 1840 Brewery will feature a beer truck with beverages for purchase.  Bring your furry friend, as dogs on leashes are welcome!

Learn more about how you can assist with the environmental sustainability of the woods at the event.

Attached is a map showing the trails.

Frost Fest
First, our Club Board has recently approved forming a Veterans Affairs Committee and Brian Kendzor is honored to be the initial Chairperson.

I intend to organize an online meeting later this week, on Thursday evening, to discuss how this committee will fit into the M-T Sunrise Rotary Club.
There is no obligation to serve on the committee by attending the meeting, only an interest in learning more and providing some input if you so desire.
If you would like to receive an invitation, please contact me.

Second; I am looking for some additional volunteers at 'Frost Fest",
a family event being held at the Milwaukee War Memorial this Sunday, Feb 3 from 12-3 pm.

The event is presented by the SOUTH EAST WISCONSIN VETERAN SUICIDE PREVENTION TASK FORCE and proceeds go to support that cause. If you can spend a few hours, please contact me, or bring your family to enjoy the festivities and support us.

Exchange Student Weekend

Dear friends,

Our annual youth exchange weekend is fast approaching! We are still in need of 2-3 families who could open their hearts & home to an exchange student (or 2) for the weekend.

Friday, March 1: Meet as a group at the Mequon Public Market in the evening to do a planned activity with all 6 students and our Rotary host families at a location TBD (perhaps an Admirals game, dinner, etc.)

Saturday, March 2: Planned activities with all 6 students and our Rotary host families at locations TBD throughout the day and evening (perhaps the Milwaukee Market, museum, sledding, dinner at the Safe House, etc.)

Sunday, March 3: Brunch at a Rotarian's home and then students get picked up to head home afterwards. Event wraps up by noon.

These plans are tentative, but it gives you an idea of the commitment you'd have for the weekend. Expenses will be paid for by the club.

If you can host one night but not the other, we can work with that!

If you would like to help in another way besides hosting, please let me know and I can give you some ideas.

Our Rotary club is hosting the following students:
1. Raghev from India (male)
2. Caterina from Italy
3. Juliette from France
4. Saki from Japan
5. Sara from Denmark
6. Marcela from Brazil

Polioplus update

Polio Plus Update
To District 6270 Polio Plus Society Members:

As a member of the District 6270 PolioPlus Society, you get the good news first...

We ended the year 2023 with a total of 12 cases of wild poliovirus, with Afghanistan and Pakistan each experiencing only 6 cases.  Of course, this is 12 cases more than we would like to see, but it is an improvement from the 22 total cases in 2022.

The last recorded case in Afghanistan was September 4th, and in Pakistan it was on October 24th - ironically World Polio Day. How nice would it be to have that be the date of the last case on Earth!

Another bit of good news...as of December 31st our District has contributed 7.5% more to the PolioPlus Fund than at the same time in 2022.  Thanks to Rotarians such as yourselves, we are making a difference in ending polio. Our District's contribution for the first half of the Rotary Year is $57,498.

Thanks for your contribution, and your ongoing commitment to a minimum annual donation of at least $100.  We had a great result from this year's World Polio Day fundraisers, and are planning even bigger things in the coming months.

There will be two MAJOR workshops at the upcoming TRI-CON, an update on the Flight to End Polio and a presentation by Mike McGovern, head of Rotary's efforts to End Polio Now. There will also be an opportunity to join other Rotarians in a workshop to swap fundraising stories and ideas.

Two fundraising events for PolioPlus will also be held at TRI-CON.  There will be a silent auction of gift baskets donated by clubs, featuring items from their service area, as well as a Pound the Pavement 4 Polio walk, which can be done anytime between now and April 20th.

TRI-CON details are available here

Again, many thanks for your support of the PolioPlus fundraising efforts.
