Good morning Rotarians!

I hope this newsletter finds everyone well.

It sounds like the Tri District Conference was a huge success from what I am told. Unfortunately, I was out of town and unable to attend, but we look forward to getting a report on Friday from attendees from our Club.

There has been ALOT of effort put into the Club books, dues invoicing, etc. Please review your statements and give them your immediate attention, weather they need adjusted or funded, lets get it done.

Upcoming Events:

  • MT Sunrise Rotary 25th Anniversary  Celebration- Jun 06, 2015
  • MT Sunrise Rotary "Changing of the Guard" - June 27

This week’s at MTSR:

This week we are meeting at the Logeman Center in the Ivy Room (lower east section of the building), the East Hall (where we normally meet) is having the floors refinished. Enter the building on the east side rather than the south. Elisabeth Suran and some other volunteers have been generous enough to set up the room for us.

Our speaker will be Tracy Jeske who has a powerful message to share with us. Please welcome her and help her find our meeting room, whom ever escorts her in from the parking lot gets a FREE happy buck on me.

Enjoy the beautiful summer day ahead of us… keep in mind we can expect to have approximately 29, 556 days on this earth, and this is one of them, use it wisely!

As always, the schedule for Greeter, Thought of the Day and Rotary Minute are accessible (click here). Please be prepared when it is your turn and find a replacement if you are unable to attend when you are scheduled.

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

All Paul Harris Fellows are invited to a meeting on Thursday May 28th, from 7:00 -8:00 a.m. at Fiddleheads in Mequon, to review this year’s nominees for the Paul Harris Fellows Award. - Lynn Streeter

Homestead, Shorewood ranked among top 10 Wisconsin high schools
By Jeff Rumage

Some of the best high schools in the state are located right here in the North Shore, according to U.S. News and World Report's annual rankings.

Homestead High School was ranked sixth, and Shorewood High School ranked seventh in the magazine's list of top Wisconsin high schools. Nicolet High School ranked 11th. Whitefish Bay High School was not included in the list, because the magazine only includes schools with federally subsidized free- and reduced-price lunch programs.

Homestead Principal Brett Bowers said this is the best ranking the Highlanders have ever seen. He attributes the school's high ranking to its increased efforts in growing the number of Advanced Placement classes and the number of students who participate in those classes. The school has increased its AP course offerings from 14 classes to 22 classes in the last four years.

June 2015 Rotarian Magazine

In an industrial neighborhood a few blocks from San Diego’s shipyards, children start arriving at the brightly painted Monarch School at 6 a.m., an hour before classes begin. Some come early to take a shower or wash their clothes. Others eat breakfast or take a nap. Classes end at 3 p.m., but many students stay for three hours of afterschool programs.

With about 400 homeless and transient students passing through its doors each year, Monarch is one of the few schools of its kind in the United States. The state-of-the-art facility also provides students with clothing, health care, counseling, and career training. Their families can get trolley passes, money to pay for birth certificates and other documents, translation services, and parent coaching.
