We will be meeting this week at the Logemann Community Center. Our speaker will be Richard A. (Rich) Meeusen. Rich is chairman, president and chief executive officer of Badger Meter, Inc., a Milwaukee-based company that is a leading manufacturer and marketer of flow measurement solutions, with a primary focus on the water industry.
Through his work for Badger Meter, Meeusen began to research the potential of Milwaukee as the “silicon valley” of water. He developed a list of 120 companies based in the region that serve the water industry, recognizing that these companies could be the catalyst for a vision to make the Milwaukee region the world hub for freshwater research, economic development and education.

Mequon Road expansion discussed at DOT meeting By Jeff Rumage
Mequon - The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will hold a public involvement meeting next week about the expansion of Highway 167 (Mequon Road) from Pilgrim Road in Germantown to Wauwatosa Road in Mequon.
The meeting will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, at Mequon City Hall, 11333 N. Cedarburg Road. The meeting will be an open house format; no formal presentation will be given. DOT representatives will be available to discuss the project on an individual basis.
Citing a projected increase in traffic volume, the DOT is planning to expand Mequon Road into a four-lane divided highway from Pilgrim Road to Wauwatosa Road. Rather than expanding the roadway north or south, the DOT has developed a "best fit alignment" that curves to minimize the impact to natural features and residential, agricultural and commercial properties.
The number of traffic signals on that corridor would increase from four to seven. Traffic signals are proposed at Pilgrim Road, Fond du Lac Avenue/Montgomery Drive, Country Aire Drive, Eisenhower/Forest Drive, Wasaukee Road, Granville Road and Wauwatosa Road.
If you are unable to attend the meeting, or would like more information, contact WisDOT Project Manager Debra Tarnow at (262) 548-8794 or by email at debra.tarnow@dot.wi.gov. Written comments regarding the project can be mailed to Debra Tarnow, WisDOT, P.O. Box 798, Waukesha, WI 53187.
At some point, you’ve needed to find a couch, an apartment, concert tickets, a plumber, a garage sale. And chances are, you’ve spent some time perusing craigslist.org, the online classified ad website that encompasses more than 700 local sites in 70 countries.
There’s an actual guy named Craig behind craigslist, one of the 10 most visited English-language websites in the world. He’s 62-year-old Craig Newmark, and he does more than help people peddle tickets and used furniture.
Through his other online venture, craigconnects.org, Newmark advocates using technology for social good. On the site, he dispenses advice, posts surveys, and highlights research of interest to those striving to make the world a better place. He also publicizes information about groups involved in the causes he’s most passionate about: military families and veterans, quality journalism, public diplomacy, open government, consumer protection, technology for the common good, and voter protection.
Newmark says craigconnects.org is a natural extension of his previous work: “Craigslist was always about helping others put food on the table, a roof over their heads.”
