This Friday (9/5) we will be having a new, expanded business meeting at the Logemann Center, at 6100 W Mequon Road. which is to include all Club members.
Greetings fellow Rotarians ! Look forward to seeing you all tomorrow morning.
This week at MT Sunrise Rotary:
I'd like to begin by thanking everyone who participated in the Avenues of Service meetings and discussions last week. I think it was productive time and specific goals were established for our Avenues of Service. For those of you who were not in attendance, I will be posting the updated membership lists and the goal in Club Runner and I will send out information on their location. I encourage everyone to review the goals for their respective Avenues and feel free to contribute thought or ideas if you were unable to attend.
This Friday we are expanding our Business Meeting to include round table discussion for non Board members. There are many issues that our membership and our Board are concern about and I hear of them often. Unfortunately, I (we) generally only hear of the problem and then are left searching for a solution. One of the things that make our Club strong, unique and honestly the reason I agreed to take on the role as President, is the diversity, expertise and wisdom of our members (you).
So in a effort to find solutions for some or our hurdles and help our Club become more vibrant and to grow, we will document issues and shortfalls that are apparent and that are expressed by our membership and coordinate them into round table discussions to form solutions. It will take participation by YOU for that to be successful. So I ask that you attend these meeting on the first Friday of the month and be an active participant.
I have expressed my concern that our events and activities have experienced declining support and attendance and I believe reversing that trend is very important to the future of our Club. With that said, our first round table discussion will be: Member Engagement and Involvement and the facilitator with be Bob Blazich. At the conclusion of the discussion, discussions will be recorded and forwarded to the Board of Directors for action.
Our breakfast will be continental style, so arrive a few minutes early to get some coffee and a snack. We will begin with the pledge of allegiance at 7, then roll up our sleeves and get to work. The Board of Directors will meet in one area and the round table will meet in a separate area. We will finish up at 8 with the 4-way test.
Thank you - hope to see everyone there Friday. I have a couple recommendations for topics of discussion at future meeting, but if you have any recommendations or wish to volunteer as moderator, please do so.
Next Week:
September 12 - Our meeting location is TBD. The Friends of Concordia room or the Lake Shore room is not available that day. I am working on an alternate location and will send out a message as soon as it's confirmed. Thought of the Day & Greeter: Judith Neal | Rotary Minute: Dick Kinney
THE BRITISH ROCK BAND Marillion is credited with inventing crowdfunding, the process of soliciting small donations from a large number of people through the Internet. In 1997, fans contributed $60,000 to an online fundraising drive so the group could go on a U.S. tour. But the idea for a system of giving money to people outside traditional bank loans dates back to the 1700s, when author Jonathan Swift founded the Irish Loan Fund, which provided small amounts to Dubliners.
Did you know that crowdfunding raised an estimated $5.1 billion in 2013?
ARTISTSHARE, the first website dedicated solely to crowdfunding, launched its first project in 2003. Musicians who wanted fans to finance their albums could initiate campaigns on the site. According to Massolutions, a firm that studies crowdfunding, by 2012 there were 452 crowdfunding websites.
THE MOST POPULAR crowdfunding site is Kickstarter, which has processed pledges totaling over $1 billion since it was founded in 2009. Projects funded through Kickstarter must “create something to share with others”; the site does not allow campaigns intended only to fundraise for charities or social causes. Its biggest competitor, Indiegogo, does. Some websites, such as Fundly, Causes, FirstGiving, and Razoo, cater exclusively to nonprofits or social causes. All crowdfunding platforms charge fees, for everything from setting up the campaign to processing pledge payments. The fees can reach up to 11 percent of the total donations.
Saukville Piggly Wiggly to take over Pick 'n Save store
By Joe Taschler of the Journal Sentinel
The Piggly Wiggly franchise store in Saukville will move into a Pick 'n Save store across the street in coming months, the Piggly Wiggly franchise owner confirmed on Wednesday.
Employees of both stores were told of the plans early Wednesday, said Pat Fox, president of Fox Bros. Piggly Wiggly stores.
A spokesman for Roundy's, the Milwaukee-based owner of the market-share leading Pick 'n Save brand, was not immediately available for comment.
Fox confirmed that his store in Saukville will move into the larger and newer Pick 'n Save site across the street in the 800 block of E. Green Bay Ave. in Saukville.
"We announced it to our employees this morning," Fox said. The move is planned for mid-November.
Saukville is a village of 4,451 people in Ozaukee County about 25 miles north of Milwaukee.
Fox said the move makes sense for all involved.
"If you look at the Milwaukee market, there are certain areas that are just over-stored. There's no other way to say that and this would be an example of that.
"It was a natural consolidation in the marketplace," he said. "It was a great opportunity for us."
Don't miss this opportunity to share ideas, discover creative answers to questions many other clubs just like yours are asking and catch up with old friends and meet new ones.
