Member Spotlight - Bobby Fisher D.C.

Hello All!  I am responding to written questions in case it seems like I am rambling.

I was born in Marietta,GA.  I have a Bachelors in Human Biology and Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City.  In middle school I wanted to be a professional soccer player and in high school I was leaning toward Chiropractic.

I worked at Microtel in Kansas City as the hotel front desk for my first job or massaging my mom’s back starting somewhere around age 9.

My beautiful wife Kristen is pregnant with our first.  She is due July 27th, though I think she will be slightly early.  Thinking of the name Alessandra, but have to see her first.

I just got done bottling 50 bottles of wine (I prefer dry reds) and brewing about 12 gallons of beer.  I enjoy being around people, helping others and enjoying great food and drinks. Playing cards and games are fun, but don’t get to too often.  Golf, I enjoy the most.  Cooking is fun, if only I would have time to relax and enjoy it.

I am trying to read more…I will let you know if I find a great book to talk about.

My best and hardest business decision was moving into the Mequon Town Center out of the basement I was in before.  I am so glad we have large windows now and SUNLIGHT!  Another best business decision would be having a business coach the last 5 years.  We all need coaches in our life.

What do I like best about my job?  I like how fast patients improve when they didn’t expect to.  I think my competitive nature has me wanting to always get people healthier as fast as I can.  Those darn Rotarians do take the longest. (I think Rotarians are always looking to take care of others that they don’t pay as much attention to their needs, so they are pretty beat up when they come see me).  In business, such as in life, communication will affect things more than we think.

Words of wisdom: “Eagles fly with eagles and chickens scratch with chickens” and “if you have more than 3 priorities, you have zero priorities”.  I only know 1 person that said those things, but they are not the originator.

Favorite rotary moment: If Brian Monroe had not invited me to Rotary, I would not have met my eagle group.  Thank you to all for teaching me a wealth of knowledge on life by setting wonderful examples.

Means taking Georgia superintendent job, leaving MTSD in June

By Erik S. Hanley

MEQUON - Mequon-Thiensville School District Superintendent Demond Means is heading to Georgia.

The Clarke County School District unanimously approved a contract to hire Means as its superintendent at its May 4 school board meeting.

According to a release from the Mequon-Thiensville School District sent minutes after the approval, Means' service to MTSD will end June 30 with his appointment as superintendent of CCSD, based in Athens, beginning in July. With such a fast turnaround, Means said the transition has already started now that things have been solidified.

“I cannot imagine a more ideal incoming superintendent for the Clarke County School District and the Athens community," said CCSD Board President Charles Worthy in the release.

Host Families Needed

Hosting an exchange student can be incredibly rewarding for your family, bringing an international experience directly into your home. Host families provide room and board and share their lives with our female exchange student, involving her in family, community, and cultural activities.

Do you, or someone you know, have an interest in becoming a host family for the 2017-18 school year? The ideal candidate is someone who lives in Mequon or Thiensville, since the exchange student will be attending Homestead High School. Being on the bus line is convenient! She will need to have a room of her own, and meals need to be provided.

We are looking for 3 host families. The commitment is a period of 3 months per family (flexible).

Please direct all inquiries to our Rotary Youth Exchange Officer, Jennifer Sutherland, at 262-387-8840 or by email at jsutherland@newcastleplace.com.
