Yup!!  Those are "Our" kiddos!    Collecting 314 pounds of non-perishable food in an afternoon ... especially at this particular point in time ... is a real service. They worked well to plan, connect with the Food Alliance and execute this community service project.

They also spent 2 hours outside of Ace Hardware Sunday afternoon... during the Packer game ... trying to generate public awareness of the need to continue vaccinating & preventing polio. They didn't think about the impact of a Packer game on their awareness effort.  So that didn't go quite as well as the food drive because so few people were coming & going from the store. However they still managed to generate $60 in donations for polio from the few who were shopping during the game.

One of their upcoming service projects ... still in the planning ... is making sandwiches for The Guest House in Milwaukee. Interact learned that the Guest House provides between 300 and 400 sandwiches per day to homeless shelter guests and others in need.  So the guest House provides guidelines for making, individually bagging and delivering the sandwiches (simply bread, deli meat & cheese) as soon as the "making" is done.  They are checking prices for the food, sandwich bags and gloves for handling the food.

For 100 sandwiches, they will need 12 lbs of sliced deli meat, 10 regular size loaves of bread, 100 slices of cheese ... and if they choose to supply mustard & mayonnaise, those need to be in individual packets.  I figure we Rotarians can cover the food cost if Interact decides to undertake the sandwich making.
