A Rotary LOL Moment

Member Spotlight - Bruce Carter

Hi I’m Bruce Carter! I was born in Peoria, Illinois back in the 60’s. Received a degree in Finance from the University of Missouri, am a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and a CPA, but ended up in Operations! Go figure! As many of you know I recently relocated my family to Thiensville from the Kansas City area. I’ve been asked on many occasion from friends and family, “Why Milwaukee?” It’s an easy answer; Wisconsin has some of the best healthcare in the United States and with Aurora we saw a unique opportunity to be part of the world class healthcare in the area ... plus I do like the snow! Obviously, I work for Aurora as  Vice President of Operations, overseeing the entire Aurora footprint for Home Health and Hospice.

I’ve been married for 30 years to a saint, my best friend, Beth. Have 4 fantastic children: Bridget, who got married last May…just before we re-located in June. Twins:  Sophomores at Kansas State; William, Computer Science major studying abroad in Prague and looking at attending Law school in the future. Olivia – a Theater Major, improv specialist, and looking to become a script writer and finally Andrew, who is a Sophomore at Homestead HS. We also have a cat Shorty and a Golden Retriever, June.

As for hobbies, I really don’t have a lot as my family keeps me busy. I enjoy the occasional jog and look forward to dropping 30 lbs LOL.

Most important lesson learned in business is to over communicate and add value. I value service over self and have been impressed by your passion and can do attitude. As I recently joined Rotary I’m still working towards that most memorable Rotary moment, but am thankful to have had the pleasure meeting each one of you and look forward to creating those memorable moments!

Where in the world is Chiara?

Chiara Mudrochova, this year's Rotary Youth Exchange student, recently moved to Bob and Jan Blazich's home in Thiensville.

Unlike AFS where a student stays with one family for the entire school year, Rotary requires students to live with three families during their year abroad. Chiara's first host was Sunrise member Will Jones and family, and her second host was a friend of the Schlageters, Marge Keehn.

Chiara, who is from Slovakia, will be the MT Sunrise Rotary Club speaker on Friday, March 30th. She will share information that morning about her home country and her experiences here in the US.

Milwaukee-based Purple Door Ice Cream expanding to future Mequon Public Market

By Tom Daykin, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Locally owned Purple Door Ice Cream is expanding with a store at the new Mequon Public Market, it was announced Friday.

The store will be Purple Door's second retail location.

The Milwaukee company got started in 2011, making ice cream for such wholesale accounts as Sendik's Markets and Metro Market. It's owned by Lauren and Steve Schultz.

Purple Door opened a retail counter in 2012 in the Walker's Point neighborhood, at Clock Shadow Creamery, 138 W. Bruce St. It moved the retail operation just four blocks away, to 205 S. 2nd St., in 2014.
