Avenues of Service

The 2010 Avenues of Service Committees

With the new Rotary year effective July 1, 2010, the Avenues of Service committees are in the process of reforming under new leadership. This year the Avenue chairs are: Club Service, Dick Dieffenbach; Community Service, René Settle-Robinson; International, Lance Parve; and Vocational, Carole Blaney.

President Sharon Pechiva also decided to designate additional chairs for areas of special focus that bridge all Avenues of Service: Tim Hamilton has been named Membership chair and Bob Blazich Rotary Foundation chair.

To help achieve our goals, each member of the Mequon-Thiensville Sunrise Rotary Club chooses the Avenue of Service committee(s) on which they will serve. The chairperson for each of the Avenues of Service committees is a member of the board of directors, serving as a direct contact and voice on the board for each member of the club.

We work hard to ensure that our service projects are successful. Each project must

  • Have specific, realistic goals with measurable results
  • Respond to identified needs
  • Incorporate the abilities of the people served
  • Recognize the importance of all participants' contributions
  • Use available resources effectively
  • Build networks for future service projects

The following sections list the committee chirs for 2010 for each of the Avenues of Service. As the committees put together their plans and focus for the year the committee members will be listed and more details provided, so visit this page from time to time for updates on each committee's service projects and objectives.

Community Service Committee

Community Service is the opportunity  Rotary clubs have to implement club projects and activities that improve life in the local community. Among others, our local community services projects have included book drives, work with domestic abuse advocates, development of Rotary Park and a handicapped-accessible trail through Pukaite Woods, and the on-going work to maintain the park and woods and restore the native prairie there. International Service Committee

International Service encompasses efforts to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the world and to promote world understanding and peace. It includes everything from contributing to PolioPlus to helping Rotary Youth Exchange students adjust to their host countries. Our club has participated in a variety of these projects and of the Guatemala Medical Relief Project. Learn more about participating in World Community Service.

Vocational Service Committee

Vocational Service involves club members serving others through their professions and aspiring to high ethical standards. Rotarians, as business leaders, share skills and expertise through their vocations, and they inspire others in the process. Our projects in the past have included annual scholarships for adult college students and support for adult literacy programs. Learn more.
